Recognizing the need for a safe and inviting space for emerging writers, the Underdog Poets Academy was founded in fall 2011. As a monthly reading series the UPA offers writers the opportunity to experiment with new work, establish their own voice, and gain footing in the local literary scene. The UPA is committed to providing opportunities to under-published writers of all genres.
At each event we feature three or four guest readers followed by an open mic segment. The guest readers are a mix of emerging and established writers, and the open mic is open to anyone willing to share their work. We focus on making the literary scene accessible and enjoyable; a stress-free evening among new friends.
The Underdog Poets Academy is currently held at The Central, 603 Markham Street, Toronto.
If you are interested in featuring at the UPA or have questions about our upcoming events, please contact Sarah.
